Thank you sooooo much for this pattern. I made these a couple years ago for a friends son and when I needed to make some more I couldn’t find the print out I made of the pattern. After tearing my house apart for the past couple days I got the bright idea to google and found you!
    Thank you so much!

For anyone still wondering, Row 5 is as follows (there’s some other stuff after row 5 so you can read that even if row 5 isn’t a problem):

To center the 13 stitches means to find the middle stitch of the heel. Then count 6 in one direction from that stitch. Attach yarn and crochet into those 6 stitches you counted, then the middle stitch you located, then continue to sc for the next 6 stitches. This gives you 13 stitches (6 on one side, the middle stitch, then 6 on the other side.) Then reach hook down and sc into the top loops from row 3. After crocheting around to the other side, I ended up joining the starting point of row 5 and the ending point so that it matched the part where you reach down and crochet into row 3 loops. Also, I had to take out stitches and readjust so that the 13 stitches were even on both sides of the boot (6 on each side.)

Also, on row 6, the middle of last round means the center of the heel, not the place where you reach down to row 3.

Another tip: When you get to row 19, before crocheting row 19, continue your crocheting row until you reach the middle of the heel. This will center your work so that, when you crochet row 19, the top of the sides of the booties will be even.

When crocheting the front decoration, I like to slip stitch around the perimeter (edges) of the decoration (I attach it to the boot this way) because it makes it a bit wider and it has a nice clean finish look.

Anyone have any tips on attaching the side decoration? I have been trying a few things but haven’t been satisfied enough with any of them. I’m going to try fastening the chain (which I used less than the recommended amount) at the top point, then picking a place for them to overlap and see if it ends up working nicely. Thanks!! If any of this is confusing, I’ll try to clarify. Good luck!

Kerry, clicking on the “Cowboy Booties” below the picture should bring it up. I was having a problem with it earlier but now it’s fine.
